Concerned Black Men invited to the White House for unveiling of National HIV/AIDs Strategy
Washington DC----Concerned Black Men - National Organization (CBM) is pleased to support the Obama Administration's development of a comprehensive HIV/AIDS strategy, and its special focus on reducing the number of new infections. The National HIV/AIDS Strategy for the United States was unveiled on July 13, 2010 before an audience of committed advocates at the White House. In attendance was CBM National Chair Byron Browder, who joined a select group of distinguished national and local community based organizations and stakeholders.
Concerned Black Men's strategic plan includes ensuring that young people avoid risky behavior that can derail their futures. CBM youth prevention programs in the areas of teen pregnancy and substance abuse help youths acquire knowledge and develop skills to maintain healthy lifestyles. "We are pleased that the President has included prevention efforts in its HIV/AIDS strategy, states Browder. Now we have to ensure that funding youth prevention programs is also a priority."
"Effective prevention efforts must include
our youths", notes Nathanial Pope, National Vice Chair. "While we would have
liked this plan to talk more about youth prevention, CBM remains optimistic that
funds to develop behavioral and evidence-based youth interventions programs will
be available soon."
