CBM Family Service Centers
As part of the Concerned Black Men-National Organization (CBM) mission to serve youth and their families and strengthen our communities, CBM offers a variety of social services initiatives in community based settings through the Organization’s CBM Family Services Center.
GOAL
The goal of the Center is to empower youth and their families to overcome life’s most difficult challenges by providing evidence-based, “best practice” programs including parenting, adult literacy and workforce development initiatives. A nationally recognized social services organization supporting youth and their parents since 1975, CBM achieves its mission by developing model programs that create positive life outcomes for youths and their parents.
In an effort to transform lives and create programs that work, the CBM Family Services Center provides the following community based services:
-
Adult Literacy Initiatives (Parent Self Improvement)
-
Fatherhood Initiatives (Parenting)
-
Workforce Development (Job Readiness)
-
Case Management Services
SERVICES
CBM Adult Literacy (Parent Self-Improvement Project (PSIP) is an adult education program that provides parents and other adult learners with pre-GED and GED instruction in reading comprehension, essay writing, mathematics, science and social studies. The program also assists participants in developing and enhancing their life, financial literacy, parenting and work readiness skills. Through its various components, the PSIP Project empowers parents and other adults to engage in lifelong learning that has a positive impact on their roles as workers, family members and citizens.
CBM Fatherhood Initiative enhances effective and responsible fathering through parenting education and appropriate life skills training. Goals are achieved through sessions in parenting, family skills training, group rap sessions, father mentoring, short-term counseling and mediation. Parents with specific needs are referred to mental health, substance abuse, domestic abuse and other prevention services.
CBM Workforce Development is a comprehensive job readiness program designed to address major challenges of adults who lack the necessary academic, parenting, and employability skills that will assist them in making a successful transition to the workforce. Project goals are reached by offering the following activities:
-
Work readiness and career development training;
-
Life skills training;
-
Adult Basic Education/GED Instruction;
-
Academic tutoring;
-
Peer Mentoring;
-
Career exploration.
Case Management Services are offered to program participants through the development of Individualized Service Plans (ISP) focusing on goals and objectives designed to address critical need areas. Each service plan is designed via an interdisciplinary process coordinated by assigned Case Managers.
